All who qualify and have desires to bring forth and establish Zion are invited to participate in this great work (Doctrine and Covenants 12:7-8). Members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints have a special obligation to “seek first the Kingdom of God” (Matthew 6:33; Jacob 2:18) and “to establish the cause of Zion” (Doctrine and Covenants 6:6).
Joseph Smith taught that, “We ought to have the building up of Zion as our greatest object”. (History of the Church 3:390-391). President Hinkley said, “…lets build Zion in the Earth. That’s what it is all about” (Tacoma Washington Regional Conference, priesthood leadership session, August 19, 1995). Speaking of Zion, President Spencer W. Kimball said, "This day will come; it is our destiny to bring it about!" (Conference Report, April 1978, pp 122-124). In the October 2002 General Conference, Bishop Keith B. McMullin taught that “The establishment of Zion should be the aim of every member of this Church”. And that, “Zion is established and flourishes because of the God-inspired lives and labors of its citizens. Zion comes not as a gift but because virtuous covenant people are drawn together and build it” (McMullin, November 2002 Ensign).
The Lord called his people Zion, because they were of one heart and one mind, and dwelt in righteousness; and there was no poor among them (Moses 7:18). The people of “Zion—THE PURE IN HEART” (Doctrine and Covenants 97:21) are characterized by spiritual and temporal unity (Doctrine and Covenants 78:4-6; 82:17). Zion encompasses the Law of Consecration where there are no contentions or disputations, where every man deals justly with his neighbor and where people have all things common and they are neither rich nor poor (4 Nephi 1:2-3).
Until our priesthood leaders call upon us to consecrate our resources, we can work towards temporal unity and prosperity now by contributing our talents and seeking our neighbor’s interest (Doctrine and Covenants 82:18-19; Mosiah 18:8-9; Matthew 25:15-30). We do our part in building Zion as we live and teach the Gospel of Jesus Christ, which includes advancing the temporal welfare of others (Matthew 25:31-46).
ZionsCommerce.com is an Internet-based business with the mission to unify and prosper the pure in heart. Its goal is to link them together, promote their business interests and facilitate a forum where gifts and talents are developed and freely shared.
